Handstand Push-Up: how to do it

Upside down with the heels against a wall, lower until the head touches the floor in front of the hands, then press back to locked arms.

NO EQUIPMENT

Step by step

  1. Hands a hand’s length from the wall, arms locked; exit one leg at a time.

  2. Lower slowly onto a pad, head in front of the hands in a triangle.

02 Lower slowly onto a pad, head in front of the hands in a triangle.

Avoid: dropping fast onto the head: the neck takes your whole body weight.

In short

  1. Pad under the head, hands just wider than the shoulders, a hand’s length from the wall
  2. Lower slowly, head lands in front of the hands in a triangle
  3. Press to locked arms, heels on the wall; come down one leg at a time

Common faults

  • Dropping fast onto the head when the arms tire: the neck takes the whole body weight, end the set before failure
  • Head landing in line with the hands: the neck gets crunched and the press starts from a weak position
